A talented left-arm medium-fast swing bowler, David Payne first caught attention as a teenager in English county cricket. He was one of the star performers for England during the 2010 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup and continued to make a mark in domestic and T20 cricket over the years. A veteran of 115 first-class matches, 70 List-A, and over 230 T20 matches, Payne earned his first England call-up as a 30-year-old during the Covid era in 2021 and played his only international game so far one year later in an ODI against Netherlands. Having never played before in the TATA IPL, the now 35-year-old Payne was rewarded for his consistency and experience as Sunrisers Hyderabad have added him to their squad for the 2026 season as an injury replacement for Australian Jack Edwards. Payne’s inclusion provides variety to the SRH bowling attack led by Captain Pat Cummins.
